The banter for the Man Utd game has already started with Evra claiming our lack of silverware is a crisis for a club of our size. I’m hoping he’s made to eat his words! Thankfully the game is away in Manchester, because our form at home has been below par recently. Nobody seems to be taking our title challenge seriously, not even our own fans seem to believe that we can win the Premiership, a win at Old Trafford really would go some way to convincing everyone of our credentials. This is always one of our biggest games of the season and I want to see urgency and commitment from the start on Monday, a few Martin Keown type performances would go down a treat!!!
If, in pre-season, you had offered me our current position in all competitions going into the Man Utd game on Monday I’d have bitten your hand off! Top of the league and still in all the major cup competitions is quite an accomplishment, especially with the injuries we have had. I’m not surprised that Wenger has said he won’t be making any signings in January we should have Vermaelen back in the new year and he’ll be ‘like a new signing’ as will Rambo when he returns from his loan spell at Forest.
Next weeks CL draw will see us face Barca, Real, Bayern or Schalke and I am genuinely hoping for Barcelona. They may have recently stuffed their rivals, but that doesn’t mean that they are invincible! I don’t want to face Real as Jose figured out how to beat us a long time ago and I just can’t see Wenger getting the better of him. Similarly the German teams are likely to park the bus and we hate playing teams like that, in a tactical battle we always seem to come out second best. Barcelona would be different though, they wouldn’t park the bus, they would attack us – and that plays to our strengths. Barca are also less physical that the other three teams, they are likely to be a little complacent and it would be nice not to be favourites. It would also be good to get a bit of revenge for unsettling Cesc in the summer!
