The sun newspaper as today reported that former Arsenal striker John Hartson has begun chemotherapy on Monday after being diagnosed with brain cancer that had spread from testicular cancer.
Hartson played for Arsenal from 1995–1997 and at the time the 2.5 million pound fee was a British record for a teenager.
“John had complained of really bad headaches recently,” one friend is reported to have told The Sun. “It reached the stage where he felt something was seriously wrong.
“It’s devastating news for John and his family. His father is at his bedside and worried sick. But the doctors are upbeat about his prospects and chemotherapy will begin right away. John is a big, strong man.
“Throughout his career he was a battler – he’ll fight this with everything he’s got,” the source concluded.
We send our best wishes to him and his family
