Brede Hangerland is reported to have been targeted by tArsenal to strenthen up the defence but Hangeland insists he has no intention of quitting Craven Cottage.

Hangerland said:

‘We have been going in the right direction from the time I came here in January last year. Hopefully we can agree a new contract, and then I’ll stay here for a long time.’

Arsenal are rumoured to have made an £8m bid for Hangeland but Roy Hodgson wants to keep his best players and make a challenge for Europa League after a best-ever League finish of seventh.

He will offer the defender a much-improved deal – or attempt to divert Arsenal towards Ajax skipper Thomas Vermaelen, or Steven Taylor from Newcastle by inflating Hangeland’s price drastically.
