It has been a tough couple of years for Robin Van Persie, during a time in his career where he should be playing every game he has been blighted with injuries which have confined him to the physio’s table for most of the last two seasons.
However after a injury free European Championship (throughout which all gooners held their breath) and no recurrences this may just be the first season where he can push on and resurge back onto a scene where before his injury nightmare he was right at the summit.
It is understandable then that when questioned about what he wants for the new season instead of talking about success or trophies he just wants an injury free season.
“Last year I missed too many games and I am still disappointed about it……….But that is life. That is football and things can happen. I accepted it”
“This is a new year with new chances. Hopefully I can be injury-free this year. Last year I played 16 games and scored seven goals — that is nearly one out of two. It is not too bad”
“I just want to have the same results this season with a few more matches.”
His goalscoring record when he was fit was brilliant, especially as he is not played as an out and out striker, so even if he is not talking trophies, an Arsenal season with a fully fit Robin Van Persie in their ranks may just be seeing them anyway.
What do you expect from RVP this season?
Do you think he is out of the woods yet?
